Seven pairs, with no sets at all. It is a special shape outside the usual four sets and a pair, worth three faan in our rules. Four identical tiles count as two of the seven pairs here.
It is a concealed hand by nature, since you cannot claim a pair from a discard. Judge it by how many pairs you already hold. Four pairs early is a real start.
Three is a trap that costs you an ordinary hand. Because you never claim, the hand is slow and gives away nothing.
Confusing it with All Pungs. Both contain no chows, but All Pungs needs four triplets and pays three faan, while this is a different shape entirely. A hand of six pairs and a triplet is neither.
It stacks with suit patterns, so Seven Pairs in a single suit is three plus seven, ten faan. It absorbs Concealed Hand, which does not also score. Self Draw and No Flowers still add on top.
Can I use four identical tiles as two pairs?
Yes. Four identical tiles count as two of the seven pairs in our rules.
Can I claim a discard to complete a pair?
Only the final winning tile. You cannot claim mid-hand to form a pair, which is why the hand stays concealed.
Is it always worth chasing?
No. From three pairs it is usually a losing race. From four or five it is worth the risk.
